Introduction to the course

The Spanish language is arousing more interest in the world every day and is gaining enormous international projection. In fact, it has become the second most studied language.

According to the data provided by the MEC, Spanish is the most studied language in all educational stages in the United States. It ranks second in terms of the number of students in France, Sweden, Brazil, and much of the United Kingdom. In Germany, Canada, Denmark, Ireland, Norway, New Zealand, Portugal, and Italy it is the third language. In addition, Spanish has the status of Foreign Language 1 (FL1) mainly in Anglo-Saxon countries, where students generally study one or no foreign language; and its position as Foreign Language 2 (FL2) is mostly in France, Sweden, and Brazil.

In short, the learning of Spanish as a foreign language is very relevant in the USA; it is experiencing a spectacular increase in old Europe; it is growing in former Eastern Europe, and its teaching is beginning to be introduced in Asia, Africa, and Oceania.

For all these reasons, the teaching of Spanish as a second language is increasingly seen as a career opportunity with a great future. The Instituto Cervantes , Official Language Schools, public and private schools abroad, assistantships and scholarships at foreign universities, private language teaching centres, NGOs… are some of the many professional options for Spanish teachers.

This course is aimed at people interested in developing teaching materials and resources on outstanding topics in Spanish grammar. The course provides the necessary knowledge to carry out an analysis of teaching materials on grammar and to deepen the criteria to create and evaluate these materials. All this will be put into practice with the elaboration of a didactic unit.

It is aimed at developing the key competences of the teaching staff:
