Conversation exchange (tandem). San Sebastian Campus

Conversation exchange (tandem). San Sebastian Campus

At the University of Deusto, there are a large number of Spanish students and an ever-increasing number of foreign students that choose this university through the international academic mobility programmes. Spanish students learn a second and third language, whereas most visiting students learn Spanish. Both groups can help each other to improve their knowledge of other languages and cultures.

The Conversation Exchange (Tandem)

The Conversation Exchange (Tandem) was created in this context, and is mainly based on reciprocity. The Conversation Exchange (Tandem) is free of charge and promotes independent learning between two people of different mother tongues so that each tandem member can learn from each other.

This language exchange enables students to improve competence in another language through actual communication with a native or near-native speaker. In addition, tandem partners are not only a source of language information, but they also help us enhance our understanding of the social and cultural dimension of the language we are learning.

If you are a student at the University of Deusto, and you want to improve your foreign language skills before an exam or a stay abroad, you may be interested in the Conversation Exchange (Tandem). We offer you the opportunity to meet a native or near-native speaker and practise another language.

The Conversation Exchange (Tandem) is only open to all students currently enrolled at the University of Deusto. If you are interested in taking part in this programme, you can sign up by following the instructions at the Registration section. The programme will put you in touch with other students who are interested in practising a foreign language. In this way, you will be able to learn independently, arranging your own meetings according to your needs and availability.

How does the Conversation Exchange (tandem) work?

The aim of the Conversation Exchange (Tandem) is to promote independent learning: you and your tandem partner will arrange your own meetings, the length and frequency of your language exchanges.

On the Conversation Exchange (Tandem) at the University of Deusto,

  • We will find you a tandem partner who you can meet up with and practise your target language.
  • We will offer you simple guidelines on the conversation exchange (tandem) methods and basic advice on the correction of oral errors.
  • We will put you in contact with a coordinator (tandem coordinator: Mikel Atxa, mikelatxa@deusto.es), who will help you with any query or problem you may have during the course of the Conversation Exchange (Tandem).
  • We will email you an anonymous questionnaire at the end of the semester so that you can evaluate the programme and help us to improve it with your suggestions.
